Dubplate City I collects dubplate-era drum & bass, the specially cut acetates producers pressed and passed to DJs to test new material in the clubs before any wider release. That practice sat at the centre of the jungle and drum & bass scene, thriving in London rooms like The End, Turnmills and Bagley's, where producers often worked under aliases ahead of a proper pressing. The album stands as a document of that dubplate culture.
