Tone Def Records

Tone Def Records launched in 1989, with Alex Gold of Extravaganza among its founders and DJ Yomi Ayeni, known as Yomster, closely tied to the label from the start. It was among the first labels to work within the drum and bass movement, moving from a Balearic-leaning sound into jungle as the genre took shape. Its early-90s run traded largely in the dubplate culture of the period and was marked by a short, riotous burst of creative energy that burned bright and faded quickly.
